16 Nigerian Soldiers Lost Their Lives in Community Disputes in Delta State.

An army official claimed on Saturday that sixteen Nigerian Army troops were killed earlier this week after attempting to break up community conflicts in the oil-producing southern Delta state. The soldiers were encircled by youths.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau stated in a statement that the soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion had responded to the fighting in the Okuoma hamlet when they were murdered on Thursday.

According to Gusau, “the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and twelve soldiers were killed in an attack on the reinforcement team led by the commanding officer.”

According to Gusau, the chief of defense has ordered an immediate inquiry and the arrest of individuals responsible.

A few people have been taken into custody thus far, and efforts are being taken to determine the reason behind the attack,” he added.

In many Delta state communities, there are regular conflicts—sometimes fatal ones—over land or energy firms’ overpayment for oil spills.
