39 Traffic Cops Have Been Detained Thus Far for Corruption.

Thirteen more traffic cops have been taken into custody by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) in Mpumalanga, bringing the total number of suspects apprehended thus far to 39.

The officers were apprehended in a cooperative operation by the RTMC’s National Anti-Corruption Unit, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, and Mpumalanga-based Crime Intelligence, according to RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane, who confirmed the arrests.

Numerous places, including Nelspruit, Kabokweni, KaNyamazane, Hazyview, Barberton, White River, and Calcutta, saw the arrest of the accused.

A bail of R2,500 to R10,000 was given to some of the people who showed up in court, with the stipulation that they turn in their passports and not leave their hometowns without authorization.

In addition to praising the arrests, RTMC CEO advocate Makhosini Msibi emphasized that corruption in traffic law enforcement will not be allowed. He gave the investigating police acclaim and exhorted them to keep going until all dishonest officials were fired.

According to Msibi, dishonest law enforcement officials erode public trust in traffic policing, which results in preventable collisions and fatalities.

14 additional officers were detained by RTMC officials on September 6th on suspicion of corruption-related offenses.

The RTMC invites people to report corruption and traffic fraud at [email protected] or by WhatsApp at 083 293 7989.
