In the Cullinan Magistrates Court on Thursday, a man who is suspected of killing his teenage cousin has refused to appear in court.

When Owami Visagie did not come home last month, the police initiated a missing person’s case, and that is how her lifeless body was found.

Chris Mthethwa, the accused, is said to have gone to retrieve Visagie from her boyfriend’s house the night before she vanished, making him the last person seen with her.

Around ten o’clock at night, the 30-year-old allegedly went to Visagie’s house and said he was also looking for her.

After the lover of the dead verified to her mother that she had left his house with the accused, Mthethwa was taken into custody the next day.

“Mthethwa and I proceeded to the house where [he] worked as a gardener and discovered the deceased’s lifeless corpse with a towel wrapped over her lips and tied to her hands and ankles.

Spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority Lumka Mahanjana stated, “When Mthethwa learned that the community was searching for him, he turned himself over to the police when he was arrested and remanded in custody.”

The case was moved to May 21 in order to conduct additional research.
