According to IEC, Older Voters Outnumber Teenagers at the Polls

There are more elderly voters than teenagers in SA.

According to the IEC, older South Africans who are 70 years of age and older still cast more ballots than those who are 18 to 19 years old.

As per the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), a higher proportion of senior citizens in the country—70 years of age and above—than those in the 18 to 19 age bracket still cast ballots.

According to the commission, 27,753,059 South Africans, 44.76% of whom are men and 55.24% of whom are women, are registered to vote. The general elections for 2024 are scheduled for May 29, 2024, according to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement last week.

New Features for the Third Ballot and Independent Candidates

According to the IEC, “this is a historic election celebrating 30 years of electoral democracy, but it also offers voters new experiences, like a third ballot in national and local elections and the first-ever participation of independent candidates.”

1,792 registered political parties will compete for the votes of the 27 million South Africans in the 2024 elections. With 6.5 million registered voters, Gauteng is the most important voting province in the nation; KwaZulu-Natal is next closest with 5.7 million.

Following with 3.4 million votes, the Eastern Cape is followed by the Western Cape (3.3 million), Limpopo (2.7 million), Mpumalanga (2 million), North West (1.7 million), Free State (1.4 million), and Northern Cape (657,000).

It is not necessary to tell the CEO that a voter intending to vote abroad and registered on a certain country’s voter registration roll will be casting their ballot in that country. According to the IEC, voting at the diplomatic registration mission is assumed by law.

Diplomatic Missions Special Voting: Dates to be Announced

It stated, “Those registered elsewhere, including locally registered voters, who plan to cast their ballots at a specific diplomatic mission outside the nation, must notify the CEO of their intention to do so.”

There will be a special vote at the diplomatic missions on either Friday, May 17, 2024, or Saturday, May 18, 2024. Every diplomatic mission’s precise date will be chosen with consideration for the prevalent religious and cultural customs of the host nation.
