According to Mabuza, the Anc Won't Punish Anyone for Quitting the Party.

According to former deputy president David Mabuza, the ruling party would not retaliate against any members of the ANC who choose to resign.

In the midst of speculation that he would join former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe party, Mabuza reaffirmed his intention to stay in the ANC at the same time.

Mabuza was asked about Zuma’s choice to back the newly established MK party ahead of the May 29 elections. Mabuza resigned as deputy president after being ousted as the ANC’s second-in-command at the party’s national conference in December 2022.

On Sunday, Mabuza conducted a door-to-door campaign for the election in Olievenhoutbosch.

“We truly won’t hold anyone accountable for the decisions they make. We have made the decision to stay in the ANC, and we are present,” he said to the press.

“We will carry on with our campaign. I am available to the province’s national executive committee this time, and they are free to use me wherever they see fit.

Ahead of the upcoming national and local elections, Mabuza has embarked on the campaign trail alongside other ANC luminaries.

The party has also fielded campaigns from former presidents Mathews Phosa, Kgalema Motlanthe, and Thabo Mbeki.

Even if the party has made mistakes, the former ANC deputy president thinks that during the past 30 years, the party has made substantial development.
