Afcon Finalist to Pass Over African Giants for Coaching Position at Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung looks at the struggles of his club, saying things are not rosy.

According to recent sources, an Afcon finalist is prepared to reject African heavyweights for the position of coach, which means Kaizer Chiefs could be poised to pull off a massive coaching coup.

It’s thought that Kaizer Chiefs are moving forward with their preparations to hire a new coach for the upcoming campaign.

Molefi Ntseki took over at Chiefs before the current season began, succeeding Arthur Zwane as manager.

Ntseki was already viewed by the majority of Chiefs supporters as a controversial appointment with no prior success. Before assuming command of the first team, he had never managed a senior professional team. Nevertheless, he succeeded Stuart Baxter as coach of Bafana Bafana until losing his job due to the team’s inability to make it to AFCON 2021. He was placed in charge of football development at Amakhosi, and the two got back together as part of a new organization.

But Ntseki’s tenure as the Chiefs’ coach was short lived, as he was fired before the season was even halfway finished. This occurred following their lackluster campaign debut, during which they lost two cups. Johnson was given an interim leadership position by the club after being removed of his responsibilities. Interestingly, Cavin Johnson joined the team in a developmental capacity prior to being recruited to lead the senior team.

Johnson was welcomed into the Chiefs with a yell after a run that saw them win three of their final four games in 2024. However, the most recent reports state that the club is now again considering other applicants. Former Nigerian international coach Jose Peseiro has applied for the position, according to Soccer-Laduma.

Peseiro Interested in Chiefs Job

“I can confirm with you that Jose Peseiro is one of the coaches whose resumes are with Kaizer Chiefs. He has applied for the position through his agents in South Africa if you ask me, and he is interested in it, the insider added.

Peseiro defeated Bafana Bafana to lead Nigeria to the recently ended Afcon finals. Unexpectedly, he is considering the Chiefs position, given reports that Egypt is actively courting him. If Amakhosi could entice a coach of his caliber before the African powerhouses, that would be a huge coup for the team.
