Following a blackout at the building on Tuesday afternoon, the Tshwane municipal electrical bill was fully paid by the South African Revenue Services (SARS).

The SARS building in the inner city had its energy cut off by City of Tshwane officials on Tuesday morning due to outstanding electricity bills totaling R838 000.

The disconnect is a part of Tshwane’s effort to get clients with municipal debt to pay an additional R1 billion a month.

The five-point plan was introduced by Mayor Cilliers Brink at the start of the year.

He stated at the time that the amount owing to the city, or the debtor’s book, was R23.3 billion.

Selby Bokaba, a spokesman for Tshwane, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the SARS building was reconnected following payment receipt.

The revenue collection crew operating under the name Tshwane Ya Tima disconnected electricity at a building that houses South African Revenue Services earlier today (Tuesday), as confirmed by the City of Tshwane. On Tuesday afternoon, SARS paid off their obligation and were thereafter linked.”
