Supporters of the late rapper AKA, whose actual name was Kiernan Forbes, are closely examining remarks made by Moses Tembe, the father of Anele Tembe, his fiancée.
In an interview with SABC News, the Durban businessman discussed his daughter’s passing in 2021 for the first time.
There has been a lot of conjecture on social media regarding the Tembe patriarch, purporting to connect him to AKA’s death from the previous year. This comes after the family had already suggested that Forbes had engaged in “foul play” after Anele passed away.
Seven guys have been accused of killing the rapper Anele, while the artist’s death is still being looked into through an ongoing inquest.
Fans Sparked by Moses Tenbe’s “in the Box” Remarks
Moses Tembe denied claims made by Chriselda Lewis of SABC that Anele was suicidal or had leaped to her death on April 11, 2021, from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub hotel in Cape Town.
Anele had gone to the rapper’s weekend performance in the city at the time. Just before she fell, AKA admitted in a post-mortem interview that she and her partner had a furious dispute.
Moses stated that the police misled the family into thinking that Anele’s death would result in a prosecution by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
He declared: “Having Kiernan on [in] the box, whether as a witness or as an accused, has always been crucial for the family.” The final person that was with our daughter had to be there for it to end.
Furthermore, Moses Tembe denied rumors that his own death was retaliation for AKA’s murder.
“I loved Kiernan very much,” he went on.Without Kiernan, the inquest and the family’s healing will never be finished. If there was one family that wished for Kiernan’s survival, it would have been ours to hear him directly describe what transpired on that awful day.
Moses Tembe’s reference of a box on the X app upset a lot of social media users, especially considering AKA’s murder from the previous year.

Letter to Npa Says Different
Although Moses Tembe has been cautious in his remarks on AKA during the interview, IOL revealed that a harsh letter that was leaked from his family to the NPA made harsh accusations.
In it, the Tembe family contested the NPA’s choice to not bring charges against Kiernan Forbes. Additionally, was claimed that the rapper covered up Anele’s murder after throwing her off the hotel balcony.
The family’s attorneys expressed their opinions regarding what transpired both during and after Anele’s tragic fall in the letter.
Among these were claims that AKA:
- Drunk and had a party AFTER Anele passed away, a few friends IGNORED Anele, who had survived the fall for twenty minutes.
- Cleaned up the blood in the hotel room, maybe to hide a fight.
- Called the front desk to request help AFTER she had fallen.
