According to the State, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, the “coordinator” of the AKA hit, called an Mfunda Gcaba in Sydney prior to receiving +-R800k in payment.

The co-accused later received this money.

The State thinks that Gwabeni was paid for the assassination of Kiernan Forbes on false pretenses, using the money as payment for consulting services.

The state asserts that a call was placed to Sidney Mfunda Gcaba, the sole proprietor of Brightcircle PTY LTD, before R803,455 was deposited into Gwabeni’s account, from which he then distributed R133k to each of his co-defendants.

These brothers, known as Abafana Baka Gcaba, are members of the KZN Black Family Business Empire, an organization whose headquarters is purportedly located in Umlazi. They go by the names of Mandla, Sthembiso, Mfundo, Nkosikhona, and Mpilo.

Sydney Mfunda Gcaba is Jacob Zuma’s nephew, who is connected with the MK Party. Gcaba and other others were detained in 2015 after three persons were fatally shot at a Durban taxi station. Because he was Zuma’s nephew, nothing happens to him, not even with video footage of the shooting. He is the infamous Mandla Gcaba’s brother. Mfunda Gcaba is married to various women and has eighteen children. Here he is surrounded by bodyguards.
