Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball manga and anime, passed away at the age of 68. The manga author from Japan is the author of Dragon Ball, one of the most popular and influential manga series ever.

News of Toriyama’s severe subdural hematoma, or bleeding close to the brain, surfaced on Friday. Many people’s early memories are associated with the 68-year-old creator of these iconic figures.

He would have a lot more goals to pursue. But he has left this world with a wealth of manga titles and artistic creations,” a statement from the Dragon Ball website read.

“We hope that everyone will continue to love Akira Toriyama’s unique world of creation for a very long time.”

According to the BBC, Toriyama was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1955. With Dr. Slump, he gained notoriety in the early 1980s comic book industry.

He became well-known for his work in 1984 when he started the Dragon Ball manga series. After being made into an anime, its sequel, DBZ, expanded and gained popularity in the middle of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s.

Following news of Toriyama’s demise, millions of admirers have honored the Japanese icon.

Toriyama narrates the tale of a young child named Goku in Dragon Ball, who sets out on an expedition with pals to gather magical dragon balls.

As he matures later in the story, Goku’s main objective is to keep Earth safe from harm.
