The court decided that the 37-year-old Ekangala man killed his one-year-old nephew in order to carry out a Satanic ritual, and he was convicted for the crime.

Sipho Vincent Maseko was further ruled unsuitable to declare a firearm by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

“It was authorized for police to examine his residence and seize any firearms found there. According to Lumka Mahanjana, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), “The court also ordered that the mother of the deceased be informed, should Maseko be eligible for parole, and make representations.”

The NPA clarified that prosecutor advocate Andre Wilsenach read the victim impact statement, which was assisted by Court Preparation Officer Lebongang Lebese, into the record during the sentencing proceedings. In it, the mother of the child described her brother as a monster and the devil, and she informed the court that the incident had left her emotionally damaged.

She went through a period of trying to numb the pain with alcohol, which led to stress and insomnia, which ultimately caused her to miscarry the pregnancy. The mother, who is now a mother of a four-month-old infant, expressed her concern that her dead son’s experience would recur in the newborn, according to Mahanjana.
