Location: Anywhere in Africa
Languages Spoken: English
Arabic, French, Swahili, or other major African languages are preferred but not necessary.

About the Role:

Joining CfA as a Data Journalist will allow you to contribute to our goal of revolutionizing media throughout the continent. As a member of our vibrant team, you will be able to contribute to meaningful research and cooperative initiatives.

Working with our African Network of Centres for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR) member newsrooms, you will be assisting with investigations into corporate malfeasance, organized crime, and corrupt politicians. You will use open-source information, due diligence, and asset-tracking methodologies to apply your investigative talents to significant cases. collaborating with seasoned iLAB digital forensic specialists in East, South, and West Africa.

You have to be adaptable and able to work well in a multicultural setting as a member of an international team in a developing company. It will be necessary for you to collaborate with individuals from various backgrounds and languages with ease.

Accountabilities: Among your everyday duties will be:

  • Investigate stories on assigned subjects, such as disinformation campaigns, organized crime, and information manipulation. This includes fact-checking, researching, and acquiring proof.
  • Examine datasets to find pertinent patterns, trends, and anomalies. Apply analytical abilities to glean insightful information that advances ongoing research and project development.
  • Come up with narrative concepts based on research results and new developments. Present story ideas to editorial research teams.
  • Create excellent written content on a regular basis, such as articles, reports, and multimedia content. Make sure that all written materials are accurate, clear, and compliant with journalistic standards.
  • Work together with the newsrooms of ANCIR members, iLAB internal teams, and outside partners. Organize work, exchange ideas, and participate in group initiatives that combat data manipulation and advance openness.
  • Help with content management of the website and publication schedules to guarantee correct and timely distribution of investigation reports and other pertinent content.
