As ANC Intensifies Its Electoral Campaign, Mbeki is in Soweto.

Mbeki is in Soweto

In an effort to step up its electoral campaign ahead of the polls on May 29, the ANC has enlisted the support of the much respected former president.

Among the leading figures in the movement, former president Thabo Mbeki will make the first move to persuade South Africans to give the governing party another chance.

He will campaign in Soweto on Thursday afternoon, the party stated.

Since President Cyril Ramaphosa said on January 8 in Mpumalanga that the ANC will be collaborating with all alliance partners and other societal sectors, the party has been actively campaigning.

“In 2024, we will focus, on working together to accelerate the reconstruction of our economy, deliver quality basic services and infrastructure, renew the ANC and society, fight crime and corruption, rejuvenate our nation and contribute towards a better Africa and world,” he stated.

Ramaphosa has visited all over the nation since the party’s platform was unveiled at KwaZulu Natal’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.

During his weekend visit back in KZN, he reaffirmed that cabinet ministers, members of the national executive committee, and all of the party’s former leaders will be present to secure votes.

This includes former National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete, former President Kgalema Motlanthe, and former Deputy Presidents David Mabuza and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

Recently, Mbeki has voiced his dissatisfaction over what he perceives to be unfulfilled promises by Ramaphosa, especially on the latter’s failure to carry out the resolve to revitalize the party.

In his eulogy at the funeral service for his former deputy minister of foreign affairs, Aziz Pahad, Mbeki expressed his continued worries that the party had not moved forward with putting the renewal resolution into effect.

Nevertheless, in spite of his reservations, Mbeki has decided to stick with the party.

Jacob Zuma, the former president, came under fire from him recently for declaring his support for the MK party while still choosing to be an ANC member.
