Assistance for Grade 12 Students Applying to Universities and Colleges

The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) provides matriculants who have not yet gained admission to higher education institutions with another opportunity to do so.

According to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the CACH service for 2024 will be available from January 26, 2024, until March 31, 2024.

The department offers this service to institutions and candidates at no cost.

The department stated, “Students who have finished Grade 12 from 2000 onwards will be eligible to sign up.”

The CACH has been a tremendous help to students whose initial application may have been denied but who have since improved with their final Grade 12 scores since its establishment in 2013.

According to the department, at the start of each academic year, the CACH service gathers data on Grade 12 students who want to be placed in a university, university of technology, or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college.

Candidates can register for consideration by any institution that has declared its desire to take part in the CACH using the CACH service. The CACH database is used for placement by institutions and the sector education and training authorities (SETAs), according to the department.

After a potential student accepts an offer on the CACH system, universities will get in touch with them personally if spaces are available and they match the prerequisites.

Through the website (self-service portal), public universities, Technical Vocational Education & Training (TVET) colleges, SETAs, and private colleges will be able to search the CACH database for people who fit the requirements for the remaining slots.

Those who would have been offered spots will receive SMSs or emails from the system asking them to accept or decline the offer. Institutions will get in touch with people who accept the offer directly after it has been accepted.

According to the department, “the CACH provides referral services to career advice and information through DHET’s Khetha Career Development Service for students who remain unclear about which career to follow.”
