The Khampepe Commission of Inquiry is scheduled to hear testimony from a new witness this morning.
The Commission has been established to investigate the catastrophic fire in the Johannesburg CBD last year that resulted in the deaths of seventy-seven individuals.
These people were reportedly receiving monthly rent payments from the government-owned Usindiso building, which is thought to have been taken over.
Since then, the commission has learned that the structure was not intended to accommodate people.
Since then, a number of witnesses, including residents of the building and representatives of Johannesburg Water and the City of Johannesburg, have appeared before the inquiry.
Sithembiso Lawrence Mdlalose, a self-confessed arsonist, is accused of being involved in the building’s fire.
