Accused in VBS looting

In connection with the alleged VBS looting and corruption, three accused, including a top official at the Giyani Municipality, were arrested. The Giyani Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in Limpopo has granted bail to all three of them.

Over R148 million was allegedly invested in the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank by former chief financial officer Risimati Maluleke and current chief financial officer Nditsheni Mashau.

Zwivhuya Tshishonga, the third accused, is a businessman who is suspected of rewarding his accomplice Maluleke with more than R87 000. The municipality is said to have given money to Tshishonga’s company.

Maluleke, a 65-year-old pensioner, has been granted R25,000 bail. The same amount of bail was also given to his accomplice, Tshishonga, 33.

A R20,000 bail has been granted for the other accused, Mashau, who is the Giyani Municipality’s top finance officer at the moment.

The case against the accused was rescheduled for May 13 in order to do additional research.
