Breaking: MK Party Will Appear on the Ballot for the May 29 Election

MK Party will be on the election ballot come 29 May

Due to alleged trademark infringement involving the MK name and emblem, the ANC requested that the MK Party be deregistered.

The ANC’s bid to have the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party deregistered due to alleged trademark infringement was rejected by the Electoral Court, which now supports the party backed by Jacob Zuma.

“The MK will not have enough time to register as a party if the ANC’s application is approved,” Lebogang Modiba, the Judge

On Tuesday, March 19, the ruling party filed a lawsuit against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in Bloemfontein regarding the electoral body’s registration and inclusion of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party on the ballot on May 29, 2024.

We therefore find that there is nothing unlawful about the registration of MK”

“In the results, the following order is made, the application is DISMISSED”

Bid by ANC to Strike MK Party From Ballot Fails

On Tuesday, the court rendered a decision in the dispute involving the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the African National Congress (ANC).

During last week’s arguments before the Bloemfontein Electoral Court, Advocate Tshidiso Ramogale, the ANC’s legal representative, warned the court that allowing the MK Party to run for office might have major ramifications for free and fair elections.

Terry Motau, the IEC’s attorney, cautioned the court that a decision in favor of the ANC would simply serve to further incite parties to disregard the law.

Advocate Dali Mpofu, the MK Party’s attorney, went on to say that the ANC’s justification that the holiday season prevented it from appealing the IEC’s ruling was “unintelligible.”

Former President Jacob Zuma has been the party’s face since he declared his support for uMkhonto we Sizwe in December.

According to Judge Leicester Adams, the MK Party was registered after the IEC and the party went through all the required procedures.

“The DCEO complied with section 61 and section 15 of the Electoral Commission statute while registering MK. According to the regulations found in Annexure 1, the DCEO’s September 2023 registration of the MK was valid, the speaker stated.
