Budget Speech 2024: The SASSA Old-Age Grant will Increase as From April 1

Excellent news! Social grants will rise as of April 1. This is how much recipients of the children’s grant and old age grant will not receive each month.

Enoch Godongwana, the finance minister, revealed the increases on Wednesday, February 21, during his presentation of the national budget in Cape Town.

Grant for the Old and Children to Increase Starting April 1st

The government is cognizant of the rising cost of living for the approximately 19 million South Africans who depend on these grants to make ends meet, Godongwana stated during his speech.

“Efforts are being made to enhance the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant by the end of April this year. To make sure that the final regulations reflect the modifications made to this grant, National Treasury will collaborate with the Department of Social Development.

“These upgrades will fall under the parameters of the present budget. The financing source and social security policy changes will be finalized in order to extend the grant past March 2025, he stated.

This is how much social grant beneficiaries will now get monthly:

Child Support Grant increases from R510 to R530
Foster Child Grant increases by R50
Older Person’s Grant increases by R90 on 1 April and R10 in October 2024.
Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant – R350
