Charges Against the Principal and Teachers for the Murder of an Laerskool Queenswood Student

Laerskool Queenswood pupil’s death

An independent legal company has provided a report on the passing of 12-year-old Latoya Temilton of Laerskool Queenswood to Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane.

During a school outing at the Wag ‘n Bietjie campground in Olifantsfontein in January, the Grade 7 student drowned.

On Thursday, the results of the investigation carried out by Ntshupetsang Attorneys were made available to the public at the Pretoria school.

The report was supposed to be finished in seven days, but it took longer than that since Latoya’s family was away mourning their loss, parents of the impacted students were worried, and the post-mortem report took longer than planned to arrive.

Meshack Ntshupetsang of the company indicated that the investigation may have revealed teacher and principal carelessness.

“We discovered that when they organized this specific excursion and announced it during and even after the incident that occurred on January 20, the principal and the educators lacked the necessary understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework that exists on a one-day excursion.”

The principal and educators should also face misconduct charges, according to Nchupetsang Attorneys, for supplying the department and/or its agent with false and dishonest information after their testimony conflicted with that of the students.

It was discovered that the school’s SGB was non-operational and that the group should be abolished.

Ntshupetsang stated that there was not much on-site supervision by the educators on the day of the occurrence.
