Chiefs Legend Matsau Claims that Amakhosi Attackers’ Fear of Failing is a Problem

Matsau told kickoff.com, “What the fans are doing makes the Chiefs players afraid to take risks on the pitch.”
Attacking legend Daniel Matsau of Kaizer Chiefs feels that the Amakhosi supporters are intimidating the team’s strikers, preventing them from taking shots.

With just 19 goals in 20 games in the DStv Premiership, Chiefs have the worst goal total of any team in the current top eight. They have had a terrible season offensively.

“The Chiefs players are scared to take chances on the field because of what the fans are doing. They fear that they may make errors. A player who is scared to make mistakes finds it difficult to shoot from beyond the box, Matsau said to kickoff.com.

“At the moment, Chiefs players are even afraid to blow opportunities; everyone wants to play it safe and claim, ‘I passed the ball to him and he missed, it’s not me who missed the goal.'”

Matsau also thinks that the Chiefs’ attackers are feeling the weight of not having won a trophy in a long time. Amakhosi will likely end up without a single Premier Soccer League trophy for the seventh consecutive season.

“As a result of playing for over eight years without winning a cup, some of their new players are under a lot of pressure,” Matsau continued.

“The players and the coaches are under a lot of strain because of this drought. This kind of situation is sure to make you panic. It is evident to all that the Chiefs players are currently in a panic; they want to win at any costs and they don’t want to make mistakes on the field.

Something will happen if the players and coaches were free to act however they pleased on the field and were not scared to attempt new things.

Chiefs, they have the players. Our strikers are excellent; sometimes, though, it takes time for players reach chemistry. The fact that their followers are fighting, hurling objects at them, and not giving them enough time to get together just makes matters worse.

Even though Amakhosi lost 3-2 to the Buccaneers, Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez showed evidence that he might be gaining confidence by scoring two goals in the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates before to the international break.

When Amakhosi visits Cape Town City on Saturday in the DStv Premiership, head coach Cavin Johnson will have to hope that Du Preez and the rest of his assault can continue to score goals.
