Chiloane is Worried About the Deaths of Students at David Makhubo High School.

Police investigations are reportedly underway to ascertain the circumstances behind the death of a Grade 12 student at the David Makhubo High School in Kaalfontein, according to the Gauteng Education Department.

During a memorial service for a Grade 10 student who died two weeks ago from an illness, conducted at the school, the Grade 12 youngster passed away.

According to Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the Grade 12 student’s death was verified on Friday.

“On Friday, May 10, 2024, at an assembly, this information was revealed. Some students fainted before the announcement could be made because they were so stunned by what was happening. Videos of this incident were shot, and they have subsequently gone popular on social media.”

According to Mabona, when some people of the community entered the school on Friday, there was more mayhem that broke out.

There have been incidents of students being forced off school property during the unrest, as well as regrettable thefts of school supplies, including food from the National School Nutrition Program (NSNP).

“On Thursday, Circuit Management was present to supervise the handling of the situation following the collapse, and on Friday, they were present during the assembly and the ensuing disturbances.

“The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the Grade 12 learner, and all efforts are being made to understand the sequence of events that led to this heartrending incident.”

Matome Chiloane, a Gauteng member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Education, has expressed his sympathies to the grieving family.

“In the wake of these awful events, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the deceased families. Our top focus right now is giving the students, faculty, and families affected by these events all the support they require. The school community is receiving counseling services as well as other forms of assistance at this extremely trying time.
