Claims of plagiarism at UNISA

Thousands of students are being investigated by the University of South Africa (UNISA) for plagiarism.

According to reports, the university’s online testing system detected possible cases of plagiarism and exam cheating, which prompted a careful investigation into academic integrity. Numerous pupils have held the educational establishment accountable for the irregularities present in its web portal.

“We experienced a high number of these flags from the examination period of October – November 2023,” said Nkosinathi Mabilane, President of UNISA SRC.

About 5,000 of them have been flagged by the students, but even among those 5,000, the investing management made the concession that, hey, first-time offenders will get a second chance to rewrite. Thus, some students who were first-time offenders were pardoned. Additionally, there are only roughly 2000 students who will commit crimes again, and the university has to deal with them through its disciplinary procedures.”
