Childhood and Schooling
Known by most as Dele Momodu, Chief AyŲbámidélé ̀báy̲mí Ojźtelégàn ̀jàní Momodu was born on May 16, 1960, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. When Dele was just 13 years old, his hardworking carpenter father died, leaving his mother to raise him and his three siblings. Dele showed incredible perseverance and a voracious appetite for information in spite of these early obstacles.
After graduating from Ile-Ife’s Local Authority Primary School, he went on to study at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), previously the University of Ife. Dele Momodu’s entry into politics is intimately related to his work as a journalist. He was a fierce advocate for MKO Abiola, the man widely believed to have emerged victorious from the void 1993 Nigerian presidential contest. His support of democratic values and human rights culminated in his detention by General Sani Abacha’s military dictatorship in 1995. Momodu left Nigeria because he was in imminent danger and went into exile in the UK. There, he carried on with his journalism career and used Ovation International as a forum to expose human rights violations in Nigeria and promote democracy.
Dele Momodu made the decision to enter Nigerian politics more actively in 2011 when he decided to run for president on the National Conscience Party’s platform (NCP). His campaign was noteworthy for its focus on reform, intellectualism, and young involvement even if he did not win.

The four sons of Mobolaji Abiodun Momodu and Dele Momodu are Pekan, Yole, Eniafe, and Korewa. The couple is married. The Momodu family is well known for their solid bond and steadfast commitment to success in school and the workplace.
