Drugs Worth R1.5 Billion Discovered in KZN Since October

ConCourt Orders MK Party and Zuma to Submit Rebuttal Affidavits in the IEC Appeal Case.

According to national police, a team made up of top officers, Crime Intelligence, and the Hawks is now in Brazil.

Since October of last year, according to National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, drugs worth more than R1.5 billion have been found on the streets of KZN.

Most of the drug busts occurred at the province’s ports on ships arriving from the nation in South America.

Valued at R115 million in December, the largest shipment found at the Durban harbor was thought to have originated in Brazil.

This week at the Richards Bay Port, the Hawks apprehended cocaine worth R15 million from a Columbian ship.

Masemola notes that there is an issue with the narcotics coming from South America trend, but they are collaborating with their colleagues to combat the problem.

“They are in Brazil to strengthen ties and exchange information so that we can know what’s going on in the ocean between us and ensure that anything that tries to enter is stopped.

“Whether it’s the drugs or alone or whether it’s with people, we will arrest before it hits the streets.”
