Eskom, the power company, began stage 2 load shedding this afternoon at 4 p.m. According to Eskom, load shedding will advance to stage 4 starting at 8 p.m. today and lasting until 5 a.m. tomorrow.
Stage 2 load shedding will thereafter be in place until 8 p.m.
Until further notice, this alternating schedule of stage 2 and stage 4 load shedding will remain in place.
“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and provide an update for the weekend on Friday afternoon,” said Daphne Mokwena, a spokesman for Eskom. 16 193 MW of generating capacity is lost due to unplanned outages, and 6 171 MW is lost due to planned maintenance.
