Five Accused in the Tibz and AKA Murders are Requesting Bail

In the Durban Magistrate Court on Thursday, the bail application for five of the seven accused connected to the killings of rappers Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane is anticipated to begin. In February of last year, Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside of a restaurant in Durban.

The individuals are accused of money laundering, unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition, murder, and attempted murder. Five of the seven individuals charged with Forbes and Motsoane’s murders were hit with additional counts during the state’s most recent court appearance.

It is anticipated that the five suspects—Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, and Lindokuhle Ndimande—will show up for their official bail application.

Twelve counts are brought against them, including money laundering, unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition, and murder and attempted murder. In the charge sheet, the state claims that Gwabeni was the one in command of the supposed hit on Kiernan “AKA” Forbes on February 10th, of last year.

According to the state, Gwabeni planned and made it easier for the other defendants to get money. The state claims in the charge sheet that the money was paid on February 11th, the day following the murder. The five accused are thought to have shared more than R800,000.

The remaining two accused, who made their court appearance this week in the Kingdom of eSwatini’s Manzini Magistrate’s Court, are still awaiting extradition from South Africa.

State Prosecutor Macebo Nxumalo informed the court during their prior appearance that their South African counterpart had not yet submitted the formal extradition request. He stated that they are still within the allotted 30-day window for extradition requests.

Nxumalo further asked the court to authorize them to turn over four cell phones that were discovered to be in the accused’s possession to the South African Police Service.
