Five men to be sentenced for the murder of Limpopo Mayor

Five individuals have been sentenced to life in jail by the Polokwane High Court in Limpopo for the murder of Collins Chabane Municipality mayor Moses Maluleke today.

In addition, 10 years in prison were handed down to each of Shumani Nemadodzi (48), Avhatakali Isaac Mudau (39), Wiseman Baloyi (37), Tshianeo Munyai (32) and Pfunzo Lidzebe (33), for their attempts at murder.

The accused was further sentenced to 15 years in jail for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, as well as 5 years for illicit firearm possession by Deputy Judge President Matsaro Semenya.

“We believe that the term will serve as a deterrent to other perpetrators, and we are quite happy with the court’s decision.

“The accused was ordered not to possess firearms and we have the life sentence for the murder of Collins Chabane’s mayor,” says Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

On July 21, 2022, in the evening, Mayor Maluleke was assassinated in his homestead in Xikundu village, Malamulele.

After gaining entry to the mayor’s home, the accused shot both the mayor and his son Ntokoto, age 18.

The only thing taken was the cellphone.

According to the court, his son survived the gunshot and currently has a bullet wound on his body that cannot be healed.
