Peter De Villiers Out on Bail

De Villiers was accused with crimen injuria and attempted sexual assault. The Western Cape police verified these charges, and they will continue to look into this matter. The GOOD Party suspended the former Springbok coach in response to the sexual misconduct claims. Brett Herron, the party’s secretary-general, reportedly confirmed the suspension to IOL.

“Peter de Villiers has been summarily suspended by GOOD from all party activities following a party member’s complaint of sexual misconduct.”

Regarding gender relations and gender-based violence, the constitution of GOD is clear. No matter a member’s position, the constitution applies to them all, according to Herron. Herron added that while De Villiers’s suspension indicated the seriousness of the accusations, it did not prove his guilt.

Peter De Villiers Career

IOL claims that de Villiers became the first person of color to lead the national team when he was hired as the Springbok coach in 2008. He gained notoriety for his frequent and frequently odd comments in the media while he was in government. After South Africa lost to Australia 11–9 in the quarterfinal of the 2011 World Cup in Wellington, De Villiers first declared his retirement.

He later changed his mind, saying that his contract would still expire in the same year, but just after the game. De Villiers joined the GOOD Party in 2019, according to the Citizen, after its founder Patricia de Lille urged him to openly declare his support for her organization.

After his wife passed away tragically in 2022, de Villiers decided he wanted to spend more time with his family, therefore he resigned as a councilor of the Good Party in the Drakenstein Municipality, Western Cape.
