Free State Man Receives 15 Years After Girlfriend Died Following Assault

On Tuesday, a man found guilty of killing his fiancée, 27, in Botshabelo in January 2023, was given a 15-year prison sentence.

After a struggle that started on December 31, 2022, and resulted in the death of Joyce Lindiwe Motseki, 27, the 34-year-old Sello Peter Motlane was given this punishment by the Free State high court in Bloemfontein.

Motseki left their shared abode and went to her friend’s. On New Year’s Day around 6:00 p.m., the man discovered her and attacked her.

“After being brought to the hospital, the victim passed away from brain injuries five days later. According to police spokesperson Sgt Martin Xuma, a murder case was opened and given to Det-Sgt Molahloe Maqekoane of the Botshabelo detective unit.

Next day, Motlane was located and taken into custody.
