According to the Central Energy Fund’s (CEF) most recent fuel forecasts for April 2024, drivers in South Africa who drive both gasoline and diesel may have some good news.
After a dismal start to the month, recent good fortune has given Mzansi drivers—especially those who own diesel cars—hope for some relief at the gas pumps early next month.
The most recent estimates, as of Friday, March 15, 2024, as received from the CEF, are listed below.

An increase of 9 cents is anticipated for drivers using 93 octane gasoline and 10 cents for 95 octane gasoline if current market conditions hold for the balance of the month, which is unlikely given the volatility of the oil price and the rand/dollar exchange rate.
In the meantime, drivers of diesel vehicles would experience a drop of 34 to 38 cents per liter. Lastly, it is anticipated that lighting paraffin will drop by 47 cents.
Two primary factors impact the price of fuel in South Africa:

- The currency rate between rand and dollars utilized to pay for these goods

The price of a barrel of Brent crude oil is $85.89 at the time of posting.
Exchange rate
The rand to the dollar exchange rate is R18.77/$ at the time of posting.
