The defendants in the case include former Transnet executives Brian Molefe, Anoj Singh, and Siyabonga Gama; Regiments directors Niven Pillay and Litha Nyhonyha; Garry Pita, a former acting CFO for Transnet; Phetolo Ramosebudi, a former group treasurer; Eric Wood, a shareholder in Regiments Capital; and Kuben Moodley, the owner of Albatime.

They made a brief appearance on Friday in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, at the specialized commercial crimes court. In March, the trial dates are anticipated to be announced.

They are charged in relation to the 2012 locomotive transaction advisory tender, which was won by the consortium managed by McKinsey and resulted in the purchase of 1,064 locomotives for over R54 billion.

A few of the accused are charged with money laundering, corruption, and fraud, while the former Transnet executives and their co-accused are charged with fraud and violating the Public Finance Management Act.
