In the Meyiwa Murder Trial, a New Witness is Anticipated to Testify

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is scheduled to resume this morning, and it is anticipated that a fresh witness will be asked to testify. Kelly Khumalo, the singer, is said to have given the order for the hit, according to two confession statements purportedly made by accused one and two on Friday.

In 2014, Meyiwa was shot and killed while at Khumalo’s parents’ Vosloorus property in the East Rand of Gauteng. The High Court in Pretoria is hearing the case of five individuals accused of killing the former captain of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates.

On June 19, 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Solomon Raphadu, who was in charge of recording accused number two Bongani Ntanzi’s confession, delivered the purported confession aloud in court. It purports that Ntanzi was called to help carry out a purported contract killing that Khumalo had ordered.

Ntanzi said in the statement that he received R45 000 for the work. Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho, a police officer, was also called to testify regarding a confession statement provided by Muzi Sibiya, the primary accused.

Although Sibiya’s confession includes the names of people who were not present in court but were engaged in the murder, Sibiya also implicates Khumalo.

The statement claimed that Meyiwa was shot and killed by Marco and Makhimbi Buthelezi, Sibiya’s companions from the Vosloorus dormitory. However, Buthelezi passed away.

For the contract killing, it is believed that Sibiya was paid R30,000, whereas a traditional healer was paid R5,000.
