Rapper and media personality Joe Budden, an American, recently sparked controversy by calling South African singer Tyla “annoying” and raising doubts about her comprehension of American culture.
Budden brought up a specific instance in which Tyla supposedly refused Usher’s request to dance at a function, suggesting that her actions were not appropriate. Budden said, “Hey, I don’t think I like Tyla’s personality,” during a recent podcast segment. “She almost has an arrogant or entitled African feel. It’s really strange, and I’m not sure how to describe it.”
There has been a mixed reaction to Budden’s comments, with supporters of the 22-year-old singer and South Africans defending her.

Numerous fans explained Tyla’s behavior away from cultural norms and her African origin, arguing that she should be free to be who she is without having to live up to American expectations.
In response to the discussion, actress Pearl Thusi said, “Perhaps she didn’t want her dad to witness that. How strange is this?!”
