July Court Appearance for Alleged Killer of Kirsten Kluyts

The Sandton jogger Kirsten Kluyts’s murder charge against the man has been rescheduled for July.

November of last year saw the arrest of the 22-year-old student, one month after the body of the 32-year-old teacher was found at George Leah Park in Sandton.

He is accused of rape, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and deliberate murder.

Pregnant at the time of her death, Kluyts was taking part in a scheduled park run when she did not show up by the deadline.

Afterwards, her nude body was found at the base of a park embankment.

The accused took the stand during his bail application and acknowledged that he had stripped Kluyts naked, taken her clothes, and tried to throw some of them away.

The young man wearing the deceased’s blue t-shirt is shown on CCTV footage shot across the park, which forms part of the state’s photographic evidence.

The name of the accused cannot be revealed until he enters a plea to the rape charge.

Claiming that Kluyts was already dead when he discovered her, he turned her over and felt for a pulse before deciding to steal her clothes so that his DNA would not be used to connect her death to hers.

According to a postmortem report, there were no outward indications of rape. The state countered that this did not imply that the offense had not been committed.

DNA results caused the case to be rescheduled for July 11th.
