Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City Play to a Scoreless Draw

Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs played at the Athlone stadium.

On Saturday afternoon, Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs battled to a scoreless draw in a Dstv Premiership game at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

With both teams striving for an early lead, the game got off to a quick and intense start. With just the goalie to beat, Wandile Duba’s shot was wildly high, denying Amakhosi the opportunity to break the stalemate early in the game.

However, a few minutes later, in the eleventh minute, Venezuelan striker Darwi Gonzalez gave the home team a fantastic opportunity, but his effort struck the upright.

Siyethemba Sithebe’s soft shot should have given Chiefs the lead in the 19th minute, but goalkeeper Darren Keet was unfazed.

In the 29th minute, Aprocious Petrus launched a powerful shot, but goalie Bruce Bvuma was up to the challenge, giving City another fantastic opportunity.

A minute later, several City players were vying for a shot in the box, but the Chiefs defense eventually cleared their lines.

The score at halftime was NIL-NIL.

Chiefs were pressing for a goal in the second half, but Keet in City’s goal turned away Mduduzi Shabalala’s attempt.

The 19-year-old Duba outran the defense as the visitors continued to apply pressure, but his shot in the 48th minute just missed the mark.

A few minutes later, Sithebe tried a long-range shot, but his attempt was over the bar.

As Amakhosi continued their quest for the elusive goal, Shabalala struck a shot that City defender Lorenzo Gordhinho heroically blocked.

Even though City was making a lot of errors in the back, Amakhosi did not seize the chance when City eventually cleared their lines.

Gordinho attempted a back pass that was almost intercepted, but goalie Darren Keet saved it.

Although the Chiefs were playing excellent football, the home defense was determined to stop the threat this time.

Despite multiple chances for both teams to score goals, the game ended in a stalemate.

The past seven league games have seen Chiefs lose to City. In 2024, City is still seeking its first league victory.
