Kieswetter’s Tenure as SARS Commissioner is Extended by Ramaphosa

SARS commissioner Edward Kieswetter's tenure of service has been extended by two years by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

A two-year extension has been granted to Edward Kieswetter’s tenure as Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The last day of Kieswetter’s term was set for April 30.

SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter’s Term Extended

According to the Revenue Service, the choice will enable the organization to carry out the strategic goal and change that it started in 2019. According to SARS, the nation can vouch for the fact that quantifiable strides have been achieved in establishing it as a respectable tax and customs body.

Under Kieswetter, the Revenue Service collected more than R2068 billion in gross tax in the 2022–2023 fiscal year—a first since the agency’s founding. This represents a 9.7% rise over the prior year.

Extension Will Help in the Smooth Transition of Leadership

The term extension also gives us the extra time we need to keep up the current investment in building the SARS leadership bench and being ready for a smooth leadership change over the course of the following two years.

After the extension, Kieswetter said he could guarantee all South Africans that SARS will keep up its hard work and spare no effort with their assistance. The Commissioner continued, “SARS is still motivated by the transformative and higher purpose of serving all South Africans.”
