Load Shedding Will Continue to Be Suspended After 21 Days – ESKOM

According to Eskom, load shedding will be in place indefinitely.

This comes after 21 days in a row and 535 hours without scheduled power outages as of Wednesday midday.

According to the utility, this is the outcome of stable generation capacity, sufficient backup power, and decreased grid electricity demand.

Eskom last accomplished a comparable feat in June 2022 when it went 20 days without experiencing power shedding.

“Eskom recognizes this accomplishment, but it is still dedicated to carrying out its Generation Operational Recovery Plan in order to minimize and eventually do away with loadshedding.

Spokesman Daphne Mokwena stated, “Eskom will give an update on Sunday or quickly communicate should any changes occur.”

According to Mokwena, they are putting in a lot of effort to guarantee the recovery of additional producing capacity by promptly returning units from planned maintenance and unanticipated interruptions to service.

“Original capacity is 14 264 MW, and planned maintenance is responsible for 5 370 MW of capacity out of operation.

“A total of 2,070MW of generating capacity is planned to be returned to service by Friday,” she stated.
