Meyiwa trial-within-a-trial heads of argument resume

The five accused sitting in the dock during the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

Heads of argument in the trial-within-a-trial regarding the murder of Senzo Meyiwa are anticipated to go on Friday morning in the Pretoria High Court.

George Baloyi, the state prosecutor, stated in court on Thursday that there was insufficient evidence to support the accused’s allegation of assault.

For the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain, five men are on trial.

Baloyi maintains that Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi both freely and voluntarily confessed, that they were read back and given explanations of all the confession statements, and that they signed voluntarily.

Ntanzi maintains that he was coerced into signing the confession statements and that he was beaten at several stations.

According to Advocate Baloyi, “They then took Accused 2 and got him into the car and drove him back to the Pretoria police station.” On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, the following entry was made: Sergeant Mogane returned with one male, Bongani Ntanzi, who appeared to be uninjured. We contend that Sergeant Mogane’s evidence is supported by Constable Jonathan and Leesering’s testimony.
