In response to reports of unpaid or delayed payments for some participants in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), which employs workers employed by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) in municipalities across the country, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, acted promptly.

In addition, Minister Creecy has instructed DFFE top management to look into the reasons for the payment delays as soon as possible.

Investigation Into EPWP Payment Launched by Minister Crainy

Minister Creecy said, “Interviewing EPWP participants will be part of the investigation to confirm the accuracy of payment information, including IDs, banking information, and timesheets.” Taking place over the next two weeks, the goal of this verification process is to create a verified roster of participants who have not received payment. It will offer a starting point for aggressive steps to accelerate stipend disbursements.

Additionally, the DFFE requests that those who are not yet paid get in touch with its Local Government Support representatives who are based in their municipalities. These authorities can offer direction regarding the verification procedure.

Minister Creecy Demands Action Against Unpaid Participants

“It is not acceptable that some participants, who have contributed their time and efforts to the department, remain unpaid for their services,” Minister Creecy said, highlighting the severity of the matter.

Furthermore, the DFFE has created 51 048 employment as part of the cleaning and greening effort of the Extended Public Works Programme. This program provides essential support to local governments around the country.
