Northern Cape Considers Developing Infrastructure to Create Jobs

The province’s budgetary allotments, according to Northern Cape Finance MEC Abraham Vosloo, are intended to address infrastructure development, unemployment, and economic growth.

The MEC insists that health and education continue to be the province’s top priority, even though the province’s budget will be reduced by more than R1 billion over the following three years. In Hartswater, Northern Cape, Vosloo presented the final budget address for the sixth administration.

The majority of the R68 billion budget went to the health and education sectors. R20 billion and R25 billion, respectively, will be awarded to the departments.

In the Northern Cape, the unemployment rate went up by 0.6%. This indicates that 26% of people do not have a job.

The development of infrastructure has been designated as a means of generating employment.

According to Vosloo, “a budget has been set aside for infrastructure projects to boost job creation.”

Divergent opinions were expressed over the sixth administration’s last budget speech.

According to Dr. Zamani Saul, chair of the Northern Cape ANC, “it is a progressive budget.”

Shadrack Tlhaole, the provincial chair of the EFF, claims that “it is all talk and fails to address issues.”

The province claims that in addition to the present R600 million in financing from the Development Bank of Southern Africa, it will continue to eliminate the housing backlog with an additional R400 million.
