Officials With "Higher Math Literacy" Are Appointed by Iec to Handle Vote Counting.

On Wednesday, the Independent Electoral Commission announced that it has selected new representatives with advanced math skills to help with the ballot counting.

For the first time this year, independent candidates were permitted to run for the National Assembly thanks to a Constitutional Court decision, which gave South Africans three ballots.

In a historic general election, thousands of South Africans lined up late into the night to cast ballots on Wednesday, causing polling places to stay open past closing time as the ANC fought to maintain its three-decade-long hold on power.

For the most ambiguous election since apartheid’s demise, over 27 million voters were enrolled.

2019’s previous election saw a turnout of 66%, but the IEC predicted that it would be “well beyond” that amount.

The IEC’s CEO, Sy Mamabolo, gave a media briefing as election day was coming to an end and stated that the new officials’ appointments are intended to enhance the caliber of the counting procedure.

Due to the requirement of high levels of numeracy, the recruitment standards for this staff differed differently from those for other staff members. Every voting center we run, including each substation, has three of these employees assigned to it.

The ANC had 42.58% of the national vote, while the DA had 25.82%, with 14% of the votes cast.
