On Tuesday, March 19, Tshwane Maintenance Will Halt Water Supplies for Ten Hours

On Tuesday, March 19, planned work will cut water supplies for ten hours in parts of Tshwane. The maintenance will be between 8:00-18:00.

Tuesday Water Supply Interruption in Tshwane

The City of Tshwane blamed the outage on Philip Nel Park water supply network renovations and tie-ins.

These areas will be affected:

  • Kwaggasrand
  • Philip Nel Park
  • Pretoria Industrial
  • Pretoria Industrial Township
  • Pretoria Town and Townlands
  • Proclamation Hill Ext 1
  • Skinner Court
  • Van Zylslaagte
  • West Park West Park Ext 4, 5, 6 and 7

The City of Tshwane advised people to conserve water during maintenance.

Gauteng Metros Demand Exceeds Supply

The water delivery stoppage in Tshwane comes as bulk supplier Rand Water has complained about high use in Gauteng metro municipalities.

Several Johannesburg suburbs were without water during the weekend. Johannesburg Water said the extended temperatures and lack of rain increased demand dramatically. This led reservoirs of the bulk supply to fall and the system remained low.

Gauteng urban municipalities use over 75% of Rand Water’s water.

Despite the huge demand, Rand Water claimed its systems are now low but stable.

“Rand Water provides bulk potable water to 18 municipalities including Gauteng metros through a number of interlinked strategic reservoirs. Therefore, increased usage in one area/system places a strain in the overall system,” Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said.
