Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, a well-known comedian and DJ, was shot and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, after concluding his show.

Mabuse was ambushed by gunmen while operating a bakkie, as per his family’s account.

After being shot and suffering injuries, Mabuse and his friend later passed away in a hospital.

The family released a statement saying:

We regret to notify you of the untimely death of Mr. Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, our cherished son, brother, uncle, and coworker.
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of sorrow and support, but they also requested time and space to process the pain.

In addition, Mabuse had a solid reputation as a stadium announcer for Mamelodi Sundowns home games.

Social media was used on Sunday by fans to honor Mabuse.

Later this week, specifics about a memorial and funeral ceremony will be disclosed.

Tshwane police have filed murder and attempted murder dockets in response to a gunshot incident involving two men, ages 46 and 45, in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza, who spoke with News24.

“One victim was hurt, while the other passed away in the hospital. Shots were fired at the vehicle of the two victims as they were driving close to Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Soshanguve, according to Kweza. The perpetrators had escaped, and police were pursuing many leads.
