Pravin Gordhan Declares His retirement From Political Engagement

Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced that he will step down from active politics after the present administration’s term ends in May following elections, according to the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE).

Gordhan assumed leadership of the DPE in 2018.

The minister has announced that he plans to step down from active politics after the upcoming elections. This is indicative of his desire to be transparent and ensure that all relevant parties that have an impact on his current portfolio are aware of his plans, according to a statement from the department.

Shortly after taking on the role of deputy in 1998, Gordhan was named commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in 1999.

In the past, he has also held the positions of Minister of Public Enterprises, Cooperative Governance, and Traditional Affairs.
