Residents of Polokwane, Enraged, Threaten Complete Shutdown

Due to a paucity of taxi and transport services, commuters in Polokwane were kept in the dark on Thursday due to threats of protest action.

A lot of stores have also stayed closed in response to warnings of a complete closure.

Concerns over a shortage of electricity, better roads, and water have led some communities to threaten to go on the streets in order to demand greater service delivery.

The Polokwane CBD, Seshego, Mankweng, Lebowakgomo, and Matlala are among the impacted localities.

The protest organizers neglected to seek for a permit, thus the Polokwane Municipality has issued a warning that any protest would be unlawful.

“Thursday will operate like any other workday. The town issued a statement saying, “All roads, businesses, shopping centers, and schools are expected to operate during their normal hours.”

Additionally, the police cautioned the locals from posing any threats on social media.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba stated, “Law enforcement agencies are prepared to deal decisively and harshly with any individuals found responsible for instigating or participating in activities aimed at disrupting public order and safety.”

“To maintain law and order and ensure the protection of citizens and property, the SAPS will make use of all available resources.”
