Ruby Franke Found Guilty of Aggravated Child Abuse

The 42-year-old entered a guilty plea to four charges of severe child abuse alongside her business partner, mental health counselor Jodi Hildebrandt. Franke acknowledged in her plea agreement to having kicked her kid while wearing boots, submerged his head, and covered his mouth and nose with her hands.

Together with Hildebrandt, she acknowledged that they also made the boy work long physical hours in the summer heat without much food or drink, which resulted in sunburns and dehydration. Emergency call records show that in August, Franke’s 12-year-old son requested a neighbor to contact the police after he broke out of Hildebrandt’s house in the southern Utah city of Ivins through a window.

He had duct tape wrapped around his wrists and ankles, was skinny, and had numerous wounds. The youngster told police that Hildebrandt had dressed his cuts with honey and chili pepper, per the search warrant.

Following their arrests at Hildebrandt’s residence, the two women faced six felony counts of severe child abuse.

At a December hearing, Franke entered a plea deal that was approved by the court, pleading guilty to four of the six charges and not guilty to the other two.

“I’ll never stop crying for hurting your tender souls,” Franke declared to her children, who had not been up to see their mother imprisoned, during her sentence hearing.

“My readiness to give all up for you was deftly turned into something uglier. All that was good, safe, and soft, I took from you.”

As part of her plea agreement, Hildebrandt also admitted guilt to four counts, with two of them being dropped. She might have spent up to 30 years in prison.

The two ladies face consecutive prison terms ranging from one to fifteen years for each charge. However, Utah law states that the maximum cumulative penalty for successive periods is thirty years, as reported by NBC News.

Hildebrandt acknowledged forcing Franke’s nine-year-old youngest daughter to run barefoot on gravel roads until her feet blistered and to repeatedly leap into cacti.

Following the arrests, the girl and boy were brought to the hospital and, along with two of their siblings, placed into state custody.
