South Africans are Secure in Moscow, According to Dirco, Following Terrorists Attack

Dirco provided assurances over the safety of South African embassy employees and students in Russia following a terrorist incident at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) promptly assured the public that South African embassy employees and students in Russia were secure in the wake of a terrorist incident at Moscow’s Crocus City Hall.

According to reports, the terrorist attack claimed the lives of over 130 people and injured over 100 more. The safety of South African employees in Moscow was reaffirmed by Dirco spokeswoman Clayson Monyela in a social media posting.

“It has been established that every member of the South African Embassy staff in Moscow, including those hired locally, is safe. Furthermore, Monyela said on the X platform, “all known South African students in Moscow are accounted for.”

He reaffirmed the South African government’s unwavering opposition to terrorism and denounced the terrorist act.

In the wake of the incident, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa sent his deepest sympathies to the Russian people. President Ramaphosa emphasized that he was shocked and saddened by the death toll. How important it is to contact Russian President Vladimir Putin about this occurrence as well as other urgent issues.

With at least 115 confirmed deaths, we are very troubled by the terrible death toll and express our sympathy with the Russian people. In the upcoming days, President Ramaphosa said, “I will be meeting with President Putin to convey our condolences and talk about a number of issues, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
