ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES ARE URGED TO BE TREATED AS LIVE BY CUSTOMERS
Customers should always regard all electrical appliances as live during the power outage, according to Eskom, for their own safety.

“Any disruption that this repair may have caused is apologized for by Eskom. The power company continued, “The scheduled electricity maintenance may not proceed as communicated should circumstances beyond Eskom’s control arise.”

SUGGESTIONS FOR REDUCING THE RISK OF ROLLING BLACKOUTS:

  • Use surge protection: During a power loss, one of the main ways that equipment can get damaged is by electric surges. Surge protection device installation can help minimize some damage in unanticipated circumstances. Install a surge protection device at the electrical outlet of the electronic equipment or on your electrical distribution board.
  • Make sure your alarm system is operational and that the backup battery can power the system in the event of a load shedding.
  • Extra flashlight or headlamp: If you arrive home during a power outage at night, keep a torch in your car. The majority of smartphones are equipped with a flashlight or torch apps, which are useful in case of unplanned power outages.
