Swallows Hold a Contentious Draw Against Mamelodi Sundowns.

On Monday, Moroka Swallows tied the DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with a late goal.

At the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Monday, Moroka Swallows defeated DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns 2-2 via a contentious goal by Gabadinho Mhango in the 84th minute.

The assistant referee concurred with Mamelodi Sundowns’ belief that the Malawian was offside before to equalizing.

On the other hand, referee Jelly Chavani gave a goal after conferring with his assistant for a while.

Rhulani Mokwena, the coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, stated, “It was a very shocking decision, but we had enough chances to have been well ahead by then.”

On a cold autumn night, Swallows trailed 2-0 after fifty-seven minutes when Augustine Mahlonoko cut the lead in half with a tap-in.

Swallows became the only team this season to score twice against the reigning champions, despite finishing third bottom in the 16-team standings.

Teboho Mokoena gave Mamelodi Sundowns the lead with a drive from outside the area on minute 39, and Marcelo Allende of Chile doubled the lead with a deflected shot on minute 51.

Mamelodi Sundowns, headquartered in Pretoria, now need 11 points from their next nine games to win the DStv Premiership for the seventh consecutive season and 14th overall after the draw.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention to Africa, departing Johannesburg on Tuesday for Tunisia and their first-leg matchup against Esperance in the CAF Champions League semi-final on April 20.
