Thabo Bester, a convicted murderer, rapist, and serial fraudster, is back in court this time to ask for permission to use a laptop while he’s incarcerated in order to get ready for his next trial.
Bester claims he needs the laptop in order to properly prepare his defense. Bester is presently facing charges linked to an attempted prison break that is set for February 10 of next year.
His appeal was denied by the Department of Correctional Services, meanwhile, because of security concerns relating to his previous escape and laptop-related fraud.
Bester’s earlier use of a laptop to arrange his 2022 escape and conduct fraud while in jail has sparked worries about providing him with such a tool in his current circumstances.
